The
International Latin American Film Festival is sought after
by lots of movie goers. The Cuban films create huge expectations
on their followers, and the critic goes to see them for
something else apart form just work.
The
International School of Cinema and Television patronized
by the Latin American Cinema Foundation is based in San
Antonio de los Baños, in the suburbs of Havana. This
center, in which the Literature Nobel Prize Gabriel García
Márquez played a significant role, forms and specializes
professionals of the cinema, television and video.
The
Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industry (ICAIC)
has provided the Cuban culture with lots of contributions
over the last 40 years. The call of its creators have made
possible that the films entail no only complacence but also
complexity.
Two
Cuban films: Memorias del Subdesarrollo (Memories of underdevelopment)
by Tomás Gutiérrez Aléa and Fresa y
chocolate by Juan Carlos Tabío (Strawberry and Chocolate),
were box office hits that characterize, along with other
Cuban films, the way of making movies of our filmmakers,
defining the very personal style, mixing humor with well
written, interesting scripts.
Cuban
film industry and their creators are renowned in different
international events. Very soon, in the XI edition of the
Ibero American Feastival of Biarritz, France, a tribute
will be paid to Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, by playing
a review of all fiction films.
